DVR – Digital video recorder

Egress – The act or an instance of going, esp. from an enclosed place, a means or place of going out; an exit, the right or permission to go out.

Homeland security – The term homeland security refers to a security effort by a government to protect a nation against perceived external or internal threat.

Ingress – the act of going in or entering, the right to enter, a means or place of entering; entryway.

Megan’s Law – Any of various laws aimed at people convicted of sex-related crimes, requiring community notification of the release of offenders, establishment of a registry of offenders, etc. Origin: 1990-95; after Megan Kanka, young New Jersey girl killed by a previously convicted child molester.

Natural disaster – A natural disaster is the consequence of a natural hazard (e.g. volcanic eruption, earthquake, or landslide) which affects human activities.

Paparazzi – Paparazzi is a plural term (paparazzo being the Italian singular form) for photographers who take unstaged and/or candid photographs of celebrities.

Safe Room – A room in a building that is set up to be safe from intrusion or attack and usu. has communications equipment, food, water, etc.; also called panic room.

Subpoena – A subpoena is commonly defined as a written command to a person to testify before a court or be punished. More accurately, a subpoena is the conditional threat of punishment made by a governmental authority. It is attached to a command, so that if the recipient does not do as commanded then he may be punished. Subpoenas are associated with common law legal systems.
